I do love a moody sky and beach scene. This one was taken on Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall.
Newquay itself has a bit of a reputation for being a bit of a party town, full of stag and hen nights and I can understand why, but i have been going there since I was very young and I have a bit of a connection with it. The best parts though are outside of the main town, up the hills on the headlands. There are two headlands, one at either end of Fistral Bay. The first is Pentire Head and I have a few images from there in my collection. The other is just called the Headland as far as I know and is the home to the Headland Hotel where i was lucky enough to stay a few years ago.
From the hotel you can walk out of the back door almost straight onto the beach. The beautiful sandy beach has rocky edges and this is where i found this image. It was getting late in the day so the sun was reasonably low in the sky but not quite the golden hour or sunset, but i enjoyed the moodiness of the clouds and foreground rock with the lines leading in to the image.
